PEUGEOT International Pro-Am 2008: another successful edition
South African Victory in the “308” group
The 2007 Peugeot Challenge Cup drew a total of 2502 golfers who participated in 28 Regional Events. 56 National Finalists participated at the Wanderers, hosted by Peugeot Motors South Africa (28 men and 28 women) on 15 Feb.
Congratulations to the two winners: Lenza De Jager (Women’s) and De Wet Lessing (Men’s). These two had the honour of representing Peugeot Motors SA at the 5th Peugeot International Pro Am which place in Paris which has just brought to an end the Peugeot Challenge Cup 2008 season.
This year, among the 180 players, 42 of them were qualified during the Peugeot Challenge Cup national finals of Africa, South America, Europe and Oceania. They had the opportunity to play on the magnificent Joyenval, Saint-Germain and Paris International Golf Club courses from Wednesday, 27 August to Friday, 29 August, under perfect golfing weather conditions.
Two groups took part in the tournament:
“308” group, with one professional and two amateurs per team, the amateurs being the best man and the best lady who qualified during one of the 21 national finals of the Peugeot Challenge Cup.
“4007” group, with one professional and three amateurs per team, invited by Automobiles Peugeot or by competition partners.
South African victory in the “308” group
In this event, as net prevails over gross result, the South African team, led by French professional player Cyrille DUPLESSIS, finished first with an aggregate net score of 230 points Stableford over the three days. The Madagascar team came in second just one point behind, while the third place went to the Dutch team.
Regarding the professional tournament, the French player Benjamin NICOLAY won the first prize with a score of 206 strokes (-10). François LAMARE (France) and Marc-Antoine FARRY (France) respectively won the second and third prizes with scores of 3 under par and 2 under par. Unfortunately for them, none of the professionals managed to win the Peugeot 207CC Roland-Garros offered by Automobiles Peugeot for a hole in one, on hole 13 at the Paris International Golf Club.
A week rich in events
The international qualifiers got the privilege to start their week on Monday 25 August with a welcome cocktail party at “Peugeot Avenue”, the Champs Elysées show room, to introduce the 21 international teams.
The day after, the official opening ceremony took place at “the Pavillon Elysée”, and attended by Communication and Strategy Manager M. Christian Peugeot.

During the following 3 days of golf, many activities and events were proposed, such as drive and nearest to the pin contests, Callaway clubs test center or relaxing massages.
Peugeot wished also to emphasize French gastronomy by proposing to its guests a cheese-tasting at Joyenval Golf course followed by a cup of Mumm Champagne. All players could also taste ‘foie gras’ at Saint Germain and traditional French crepes at the Paris International Golf Club. The complete Peugeot car range was also displayed on the three courses.
The official partners and suppliers, Total and Marie Valois, also contributed to the success of the competition, by sponsoring numerous contests and offering a large number of gifts for the general prize presentation.
After an intermediate prize giving ceremony on Thursday at Peugeot headquarter, the Peugeot International Pro Am reached a climax with a Gala dinner on Friday aboard the “River Palace” boat, for a cruise on the Seine River. This dinner was honoured by the presence of M. Paul Sevin, Peugeot Marketing and Commercial Strategy Director, and M. Georges Barbaret, President of the French Golf Federation.
