Club Peugeot year end function
Stellenbosch 29 November 2009
Club Peugeot Afrique du Sud ended the year on a high note on the banks of the Eerste River in Stellenbosch.
Johan Fourie, founder of the original South African 203/403 Club turned up in a 1948 Peugeot 203 belonging to Latie Lategan of Stand, Western Cape Province. Johan, who lives in Witbank, Mpumalanga Province, got the 203 for Latie on condition that when he visits the Cape (by aeroplane) he may have the use of the car. Latie is also the owner of a 1970 Peugeot 504 cabriolet.
To state that Johan Fourie knows everything there is to know about a 203, is a bit of an under statement. Ask Johan anything about these cars and he will keep you busy for days on end. Johan even turned up with a complete new set of pistons and sleeves for the 203, still in original wrapping and Peugeot packaging……not that these spares are ever to be use on the 203 – they just last for ever.
This Peugeot 203 is definitely one of the oldest 203's in the country. It has a standard sunroof, but with the harsh South African sun, sunroofs were never very popular in those days. Also, it often leaked in the rain.
