Birth of a concept car
As a unique item, a concept car is not subject to the same economical or technical constraints as a production model. Its development, which is much quicker, generally requires 12 months from the initial brief to the presentation of the completed vehicle. Objective: to be ready for the motorshow where the vehicle will be unveiled.
The idea of a concept car originates from a product strategy or styling strategy of a brand. It can also come from the proposals of designers invited to work on a particular subject or to make a particular designer's unique idea a reality.
The first phase in creating a concept, including the sketches, 3D models and confirming the final style, takes approximately half a year. Six months from the motorshow the production study commences in earnest and at the same time the “marketing position” is determined and the name of the concept decided. The last few weeks before the motorshow are spent on the official promotional pictures and videos.
